ज्योतिषशास्त्र में सभी विषयों के लिए निश्चित भाव निर्धारित किया गया है लग्न, पंचम, सप्तम, नवम,  एकादश, तथा द्वादश भाव को प्रेम-विवाह का कारक भाव माना गया है यथा —

लग्न भाव      —   जातक स्वयं।

पंचम भाव     —   प्रेम या प्यार का स्थान।

सप्तम भाव     —   विवाह का भाव।

नवम भाव     —   भाग्य स्थान।

एकादश भाव —    लाभ स्थान।

द्वादश भाव    —   शय्या सुख का स्थान।

 सभी ग्रहो को भी विशेष कारकत्व प्रदान किया गया है। यथा “शुक्र ग्रह” को प्रेम तथा विवाह का कारक माना गया है। स्त्री की कुंडली में “ मंगल ग्रह “ प्रेम का कारक माना गया है।

प्रेम विवाह के ज्योतिषीय सिद्धांत या नियम

पंचम और सप्तम भाव तथा भावेश के साथ सम्बन्ध। पंचम भाव प्रेम का भाव है और सप्तम भाव विवाह का अतः जब पंचम भाव का सम्बन्ध सप्तम भाव भावेश से होता है तब प्रेमी-प्रेमिका वैवाहिक सूत्र में बंधते हैं।

पंचमेश-सप्तमेश-नवमेश तथा लग्नेश का किसी भी प्रकार से परस्पर सम्बन्ध हो रहा हो तो जातक का प्रेम, विवाह में अवश्य ही परिणत होगा हाँ यदि अशुभ ग्रहो का भी सम्बन्ध बन रहा हो तो वैवाहिक समस्या आएगी।

लग्नेश-पंचमेश-सप्तमेश-नवमेश तथा द्वादशेश का सम्बन्ध भी अवश्य ही प्रेमी प्रेमिका को वैवाहिक बंधन बाँधने में सफल होता है।

प्रेम और विवाह के कारक ग्रह शुक्र या मंगल का पंचम तथा सप्तम भाव-भावेश के साथ सम्बन्ध होना भी विवाह कराने में सक्षम होता है।

सभी भावो में नवम भाव की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका होती है नवम भाव का परोक्ष या अपरोक्ष रूप से सम्बन्ध होने पर माता-पिता का आशीर्वाद मिलता है और यही कारण है की नवम भाव -भावेश का पंचम- सप्तम भाव भावेश से सम्बन्ध बनता है तो विवाह भागकर या गुप्त रूप से न होकर सामाजिक और पारिवारिक रीति-रिवाजो से होती है।

शुक्र अगर लग्न स्थान में स्थित है और चन्द्र कुण्डली में शुक्र पंचम भाव में स्थित है तब भी प्रेम विवाह संभव होता है।

नवमांश कुण्डली जन्म कुण्डली का सूक्ष्म शरीर माना जाता है अगर कुण्डली में प्रेम विवाह योग नहीं है या आंशिक है और नवमांश कुण्डली में पंचमेश, सप्तमेश और नवमेश की युति होती है तो प्रेम विवाह की संभावना प्रबल हो जाती है।

पाप ग्रहो का सप्तम भाव-भावेश से युति हो तो प्रेम विवाह की सम्भावना बन जाती है।

राहु और केतु का सम्बन्ध लग्न या सप्तम भाव-भावेश से हो तो प्रेम विवाह का सम्बन्ध बनता है।

लग्नेश तथा सप्तमेश का परिवर्तन योग या केवल सप्तमेश का लग्न में होना या लग्नेश का सप्तम में होना भी प्रेम विवाह करा देता है।

चन्द्रमा तथा शुक्र का लग्न या सप्तम में होना भी प्रेम विवाह की ओर संकेत करता है।

गृहस्थ जीवन में पति-पत्नी का महत्वपूर्ण स्थान होता है ,जिनके आधार पर सांसारिक सुखों की कामना की जा सकती है,परन्तु कुण्डली में कुछ योग ऐसे भी होते हैं जो युगल जोड़ी को बिखेर डालते हैं । 

कुण्डली में राहु-केतु एक दूसरे को विलग करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं।

यदि इनकी दृष्टि सप्तम भाव या सप्तम भाव के स्वामी तथा शुक्र पर पड़ती हो तो यह पति और पत्नी को दूर करने का योग बनता है। ऐसे ही  कुछ योग

पति-पत्नी दूर रह कर जीवनयापन करते हैं  -

१ -  यदि कुण्डली के सप्तम भाव का स्वामी और द्वादश का स्वामी दोनों दशम स्थान में चर राशि में बैठे हों तो पति-पत्नी को अलग रहने का योग बनता है । 

दोनों अलग-अलग रहकर अपना जीवन जीते है,उन्हें एक-दूसरे से कोई मतलब नही होता है । 

२ -  यदि कुण्डली के सप्तम स्थान में राहु और व्यय  का स्वामी दोनों एक साथ बैठे हों तो पति-पत्नी अलग-अलग जीवन यापन करते हैं,और दाम्पत्य जीवन में मतभेद निश्चित तौर पर देखने को मिलता है । 

३ -  यदि कुण्डली में द्वादश  स्थान का स्वामी एवं सप्तम स्थान का स्वामी दोनों पञ्चम स्थान में हों  तथा सप्तम स्थान पर राहु या केतु की दृष्टि हो तो पति-पत्नी अलग रहकर जीवन यापन करते हैं। 

4 -  यदि कुण्डली के सप्तम भाव का स्वामी द्वादश भाव में हो तो पत्नी अपने आप ही अलग हो जाती है ।
