यदि हमारे पूर्वजों ने किसी प्रकार के अशुभ कार्य किये हों एवं अनैतिक रूप से धन एकत्रित किया होता है, तो उसके दुष्परिणाम आने वाली पीढ़ियों को भुगतने पड़ते हैं, क्योंकि आगे आने वाली पीढ़ियों के भी कुछ ऐसे अशुभ कर्म होते हैं कि वे उन्हीं पूर्वजों के यहां पैदा होते हैं। अतः पूर्वजों के कर्मों के फलस्वरूप आने वाली पीढ़ियों पर पड़ने वाले अशुभ प्रभाव को पैतृक दोष या पितृ-दोष कहा जाता है। जातक द्वारा इस जन्म या पूर्व जन्मों में किये गये गलत, अशुभ या पाप कर्म अर्थात् अधर्म का जातक को इस जन्म या अगले जन्म या जन्मों में परिणाम भोगना पड़ता है। यह जन्मपत्री में 'पितृ दोष' के रूप में उत्पन्न होता है। अतः इसकी पहचान अति आवश्यक है; ताकि जातक द्वारा किये गये अधर्म का पता लग जाये तथा उपाय द्वारा इसे सुधारा जा सके।
जातक के व परिवार जनों के जीवन-काल में अधोअंकित लक्षण- फल-प्रभाव परिलक्षित-दृष्टव्य होते हैं ।
असामयिक घटना दुर्घटना का होना, जन-धन की हानि होना। परिवार में अकारण लड़ाई-झगड़ा बना रहना। पति/तथा पत्नी वंश वृद्धि हेतु सक्षम न हों। आमदनी के स्रोत ठीक-ठाक होने तथा शिक्षित एवम् सुंदर होने के बावजूद विवाह का न हो पाना। बारंबार गर्भ की हानि (गर्भपात) होना। बच्चों की बीमारी लगातार बना रहना, नियत समय के पूर्व बच्चों का होना, बच्चों का जन्म होने के तीन वर्ष की अवधि के अंदर ही काल के गोद में समा जाना। दवा-दारू पर धन का अपव्यय होना। जातक व अन्य परिवार जनों को अकारण क्रोध का बढ़ जाना, चिड़चिड़ापन होना। परीक्षा में पूरी तैयारी करने के बावजूद भी असफल रहना, या परीक्षा-हाल में याद किए गए प्रश्नों के उत्तर भूल जाना, दिमाग शून्यवत हो जाना, शिक्षा पूर्ण न कर पाना। घर में वास्तु दोष सही कराने, गंडा-ताबीज बांधने, झाड़-फूंक कराने का भी कोई असर न होना। ऐसा प्रतीत होना कि सफलता व उन्नति के मार्ग अवरूद्ध हो गए हैं। जातक व उसके परिवार जनों का कुछ न कुछ अंतराल पर रोग ग्रस्त रहना, किसी को दीर्घकालिक बीमारी का सामना करना, समुचित इलाज के बावजूद रोग का पकड़ में न आना। जातक या परिवार जनों को अपंगता, मूर्छा रोग, मिर्गी रोग मानसिक बीमारी का होना (कुछ स्थानों पर कुष्ठ रोग का होना) ।

सूर्य के कारण पितृ ऋण का दोष :-
सूर्य पापे संयुक्त: मानसागरी के अनुसार - ''सूर्य पाप ग्रह से युक्त हो या पाप कर्तरी योग में हो अर्थात् पाप ग्रह के मध्य हो अथवा सूर्य से सप्तम भाव में पाप ग्रह हो तो उसका पिता असामयिक मृत्यु प्राप्त करता है। यह एक पितृ दोष का कारण हैं। ''अर्थात् इस कथन का विवेचन यह स्पष्ट करता है कि सूर्य के लिये पाप ग्रह केवल शनि, राहु और केतु हैं। क्योंकि सूर्य तो स्वयं पाप व क्रूर ग्रह हैं तथा दूसरा अन्य पाप ग्रह मंगल हैं, जो सूर्य का मित्र हैं। इसलिये सूर्य एवं मंगल को पापत्व से मुक्त किया गया है। इसलिये सूर्य के साथ शनि, राहु एवं केतु हो तो पितृ दोष लगता है या पितृ ऋण चढ़ जाता है। यही पितृ दोष की पहचान भी है। सूर्यश्च पाप मध्यगत : सूर्य, यदि शनि, राहु और केतु के बीच में हो अर्थात् पूर्व ओर राहु, केतु, शनि हो। इससे पितृ दोष आ जाता है। सूर्य सप्तगम पाप : सूर्य से सप्तम स्थान पर पाप ग्रह हो अर्थात् सूर्य पाप ग्रह से दृष्ट हो तो पितृ दोष आ जाता है। क्योंकि सभी ग्रह (यानि राहु, केतु, शनि) अपने से सप्तम भाव या दृष्टि से देखते हैं। शनि की सप्तम के अलावा अन्य और दो दृष्टि -तृतीय एवं दशम होती है। अतः सूर्य से चतुर्थ, सप्तम और एकादश स्थान पर शनि के रहने से पितृ दोष लगता है जिससे जातक के ऊपर पितृ ऋण चढ़ जाता है।
राहु, केतु की दृष्टि प्राचीन ग्रंथों में नहीं है। लेकिन अर्वाचीन ग्रंथों ने माना है कि राहु, केतु ग्रह पंचम एवं नवम भाव को देखते हैं, क्योंकि ये दोनों दृष्टियां होती हैं ये माना जाता है। इनका फल भी घटता जाता है। अतः सूर्य से पंचम और नवम स्थान में राहु, के रहने पर पितृ दोष लगता है। तत् पितृ बधो भवेत् : पिता का घर प्रधान मुख्य होता है। उनके होने से परिवार में उन्नति होती है, सुख-शांति मिलती है क्योंकि पिता, परिवार का मुखिया-स्वामी होता है यानि परिवार की छत हैं। इसके अलावा, इनके रहने से बाहर की सुख शांति में बाधा नहीं रहती हैं। संसार में अमन चैन रहता है। पिता के नहीं रहने पर उपरोक्त सभी सुखों में कमी आयेगी। उपरोक्त सभी सुखों में कमी पितृ दोष आने पर भी आ जाती है जिससे घर में अशांति रहेगी।
'पिता' (पितृ) शब्द का विशेष 'अर्थ' : ज्योतिष में 'पिता' का कारक 'सूर्य' है। प्राचीन काल में ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश दृश्य थे लेकिन आधुनिक काल में मनुष्यों में दानवत्व के गुण अधिक आ जाने से ये तीनो शक्तियां अदृश्य रूप में हैं। लेकिन यही सूर्य (पिता का कारक), सृष्टि की उत्पत्ति, वृद्धि (संचालन) तथा विनाश करता है। सूर्य, भाग्य, स्वास्थ्य, हड्डी, नेत्र, धन, राज्य व सरकार व नेतृत्व का कारक भी है। अतः इसके निर्बल हो जाने या पितृ दोष के आ जाने के कारण उपरोक्त सुखों में कमी आ जाती है। कारण (सूर्य के कारण, पितृ दोष लगने का कारण) परमात्मा के पास मनुष्य को मिलाकर प्रत्येक जीव के प्रारब्ध का लेखा-जोखा है। पूर्व जन्मों के पाप एवं पुण्य जनित फल भोगने के लिये ही मानव एवं अन्य जीव का शरीर (रूप) मिलता है। चूंकि सूर्य, आत्मा एवं पिता का कारक है अतः पूर्व जन्म में अपने पिता (अर्थात् पितृ/पूर्वज) को किसी भी तरह से संतुष्ट नहीं करने के कारण यह दोष चढ़ता है। सूर्य के कारण पितृ दोष लगने के निम्न कारण हो सकते हैं। पिता की हत्या कर देना। अपने कार्य से पिता को संतुष्ट एवं खुश न रखना। पिता की अच्छी तरह से सेवा न करना। विपरीत प्रतिष्ठा के कारण पिता की प्रतिष्ठा, मान-सम्मान में कमी करना। वह पाप/अपराध, जिसका प्रायश्चित बड़ी मुश्किल से हो या न हो आदि।
सूर्य के कारण पितृ दोष निवारण के उपाय माणिक्य धारण करें। लग्नानुसार सूर्य यंत्र को स्थापित कर, सूर्य मंत्र - ''ॐ घृणि सूर्याय नमः'' के साथ पंचोपचार पूजा करें। रविवार के व्रत और उद्यापन करें। सूर्य का अनौना व्रत रखें। सूर्य की वस्तुओं का दान करे। प्रतिदिन गुरुजनों की सेवा करें। सूर्य नमस्कार करें।
मंगल के कारण पितृ दोष : -
मंगल का संबंध रक्त संबंध से होता है तथा रक्त संबंध के अंतर्गत पूर्वज, पिता आदि सारे संबंध आ जाते हैं। यदि हमारे पूर्वजों ने कुछ गलत कर्म किये हैं तो उनका परिणाम स्वयं को इस जन्म में या अगले जन्म में अथवा पीढ़ी दर-पीढ़ी किसी न किसी को भोगना पड़ता है। जो पितृ दोष के रूप में उभर कर सामने आता है। चूंकि मंगल, हमारे शरीर में बहने वाले खून का कारक होता है अतः इस पर राहु, केतु का पाप प्रभाव होने पर पितृ दोष के रूप में उभर कर सामने आता है। तो यह मंगल शरीर में खून की कमी कर अपना प्रभाव जातक को निम्न रक्तचाप के रूप में देता है। जिससे शरीर में ऊर्जा, कामशक्ति तथा संतान पैदा करने की शक्ति की कमी करता है। चूंकि राहु एवं केतु के साथ जब मंगल ग्रह आ जाता हैं तो पितृ दोष का निर्माण होता है। अर्थात् राहु एवं केतु पितृ दोष की सूचना देते हैं। इसके साथ ही ये दोनों ही ग्रह कालसर्प योग की भी रचना करते हैं। इसके कारण जातक की वंश वृद्धि रूक जाती है। मंगल के कारण उपरोक्त अशुभ फल मुख्य हैं। क्योंकि मंगल रक्त का कारक ग्रह है। इसके अलावा, अन्य अशुभ परिणाम भी देखने को मिलते हैं। जैसे - अकाल मृत्यु होना अर्थात् समय से पूर्व ही दुर्घटना या अन्य किसी कारण से जातक की मृत्यु होना, बलहीन हो जाना आदि है। इस स्थिति में मृत आत्मा तब तक भटकती रहती है जब तक कि उसकी वास्तविक आयु पूरी नहीं हो जाये। इसके अलावा कई आत्माएं भूत, प्रेत, नाग, डायन (भूतनी, प्रेतनी) आदि बनकर पृथ्वी पर विचरती (भटकती) रहती है। ये सभी राहु, केतु के ही रूप हैं जिन्हें ऊपरी बाधा या हवा कहते हैं। इसके अलावा और भी कई धार्मिक आत्मायें रहती हैं वे किसी को भी परेशानी नहीं देती बल्कि दूसरों का सदा भला करती हैं। लेकिन बुरी (दुष्ट) आत्मायें दूसरों को दुख, कष्ट आदि ही देती हैं। यही स्थिति हमारे पूर्वजों पर भी समान रूप से लागू होती है।

Therefore, Pitru dosha is placed on the stay of Rahu in fifth and ninth place from Sun. The father of the family, Bhado, father's house is the main head. Apart from this, the happiness outside of them does not hinder peace. There is peace in the world. If the father is not there, all the above happiness will decrease. The lack of all the above pleasures comes even when the Pitra Dosha comes due to which there will be disturbance in the house.
The special 'meaning' of the word 'father' (Pitru): in astrology the 'father' factor is 'Surya'. In ancient times, Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh were visible, but in modern times these three powers are in the invisible form due to excess of demonetization in humans. But this is the Sun (the father's factor), the creation of the world, growth (operation) and destruction. Sun is also a factor of luck, health, bone, eye, money, state and government and leadership. Pitra dosha due to Mars: -
Mars is related to blood relation and under blood relation, all relations of ancestor, father etc. come. If our ancestors have done some wrong deeds, then they have to bear the consequences of themselves in this life or in the next life or generation after generation. Which emerges as Pitra dosha. Since Mars is the factor of blood flowing in our body, the sinful effect of Rahu, Ketu on it emerges as Pitra dosha. So this Mars gives its effect in the form of low blood pressure to the native by reducing the blood in the body. Due to which the body lacks energy, work power and power to produce children. Since when Mars comes with Rahu and Ketu, Pitra Dosh is formed. That is, Rahu and Ketu report Pitra dosha. Along with this, both these planets also create Kalsarpa Yoga. Due to this, the family's lineage stops growing. The above ominous fruits are the main reason for Mars. Because Mars is the causative planet of blood. Apart from this, other inauspicious results are also seen. हमारे पूर्वज, मृत अवस्था में जो रूप धारण करते हैं, वे पितृ दोष के कारण तड़पते रहते हैं तथा आकाश में विचरण करते रहते हैं। उन्हें खाने, पीने को कुछ भी मिलता है। उनकी आत्मायें चाहती है, उनके रक्त संबंध (रिश्तेनाते) (जैसे- पुत्र, पौत्र या पौत्री, पुत्री, पत्नी आदि। उस आत्मा का उद्धार करें। यह उद्धार इसके उपाय ''श्राद्ध'' कर्म करके किया जा सकता है। अर्थात् आकाश में विचरण कर रही उन आत्माओं को खाने-पीने का कुछ भी नहीें मिलने की स्थिति में तड़पने पर रक्त संबंध द्वारा श्राद्ध कर्म करने पर उन्हें खाने-पीने (तर्पण) को मिल जाता है तथा उनकी आत्माएं तर्पण से तृप्त हो जाती है। तथा श्राद्ध में खाने के बाद पिलाने का विशेष महत्व है। क्योंकि (जल) 'तर्पण' को कहते हैं तथा इससे आत्माएं तृप्त हो जाती हैं, फिर भटकती नहीं है तथा इनका उद्धार हो जाता है यदि उपरोक्त रक्त संबंधी ऐसा नहीं करते हैं तो ये आत्मायें, इनके रक्त संबंधियों के जीवन में घोर संकट के रूप में सामने आती हैं, जो कि पितृ दोष का कारण बन जाती हैं। परिवार में एक या अधिक को पितृ दोष हो सकता है। जो इस आत्मा के ज्यादा निकट होता है वह उसका पात्र बनता है। उपरोक्त विवेचन से स्पष्ट होता है कि पितृदोष का कारक मंगल होता है तथा मंगल का संबंध रक्त संबंध से होता है। जो ''शिव आराधना'' से दूर होता है।
इनके प्रभाव एवं उपाय 'मंगल उपाय' को छोड़कर समान हैं। कुछ उपाय ''मंगल के कारण पितृ दोष'' निम्न है। लग्नानुसार मूंगा धारण करें तथा राहु, केतु के वैदिक मंत्रों का क्रमशः १८००० , १७००० जप करावें। मंगल यंत्र को स्थापित कर पूजा करें। मंगल मंत्र के १०००० जप करायें। मंगलवार को मंगल की वस्तुओं का दान करें। मंगलवार को व्रत करें। शिव आराधना करें। लाल मसूर की दाल और कुछ पैसे प्रातः काल सफाई करने वाले को दान करें। कुछ कोयले पानी में प्रवाहित करें। अपने शयन कक्ष में लाल रंग के तकिये कवर, चद्दर तथा पर्दे का प्रयोग करें। मसूर की दाल पानी में प्रवाहित करें। हनुमानजी, कार्तिकेय जी व नृसिंह की पूजा करे। सूअर (श्रीहरि का वाराहवतार) को प्रतिदिन या सप्ताह में दो बार-मंगल एवं शनिवार को मसूर की दाल खिलायें। मछली (मत्स्य) (श्री हरि का मत्स्यावतार) को प्रतिदिन आटे की गोलियां खिलायें। मंगल भगवान का पूजन, अर्चन शिव स्वरूप में होता हैं। पूजा में पंचामृत से स्नान करवाते हैं। प्रातः सूर्य नमस्कार करें एवं सूर्यदेव को तांबे के लोटे से जल का अर्घ्य दें। । पूर्णिमा को चांदी के लोटे से दूध का अर्घ्य चंद्र देव को दें, व्रत भी करें। बुजुर्गों या वरिष्ठों के चरण छू कर आशीर्वाद लें। 'पितृ दोष शांति' यंत्र को अपने पूजन स्थल पर प्राण प्रतिष्ठा द्वारा स्थापित कर, प्रतिदिन इसके स्तोत्र एवं मंत्र का जप करें। पितृ गायत्री मंत्र द्वारा सवा लाख मंत्रों का अनुष्ठान अर्थात् जप, हवन, तर्पण आदि संकल्प लेकर विधि विधान सहित करायें।
अमावस्या का व्रत करें तथा ब्राह्मण भोज, दान आदि कराने से पितृ शांति मिलती है। अपने घर में पितरों के लिये एक स्थान अवश्य बनायें तथा प्रत्येक शुभ कार्य के समय अपने पितरों को स्मरण करें। उनके स्थान पर दीपक जलाकर, भोग लगावें। ऐसा प्रत्येक त्योहार (उत्सव/पर्व) तथा पूर्वजों की मृत्यु तिथि के दिन करें। उपरोक्त पूजा स्थल घर की दक्षिण दिशा की तरफ करें तथा वहां पूर्वजों की फोटो-तस्वीर लगायें। दक्षिण दिशा की तरफ पैर करके कभी न सोयें। अमावस्या को विभिन्न वस्तुओं जैसे - सफेद वस्त्र, मूली, रेवड़ी, दही व दक्षिणा आदि का दान करें। प्रत्येक अमावस्या को श्री सत्यनारायण भगवान की कथा करायें और श्रवण करें। विष्णु मंत्रों का जाप करें तथा श्रीमद् भागवत गीता का पाठ करें। विशेषकर ये श्राद्ध पक्ष में करायें। एकादशी व्रत तथा उद्यापन करें। पितरों के नाम से मंदिर, धर्मस्थल, विद्यालय, धर्मशाला, चिकित्सालय तथा निःशुल्क सेवा संस्थान आदि बनायें।
श्राद्ध-पक्ष में गंगाजी के किनारे पितरों की शांति एवं हवन-यज्ञ करायें। पिंडदान करायें। 'गया' में जाकर पिंडदान करवाने से पितरों को तुरंत शांति मिलती हैं। अर्थात जो पुत्र 'गया' में जाकर पिंडदान करता हैं, उसी पुत्र से पिता अपने को पुत्रवान समझता हैं और गया में पिंड देकर पुत्र पितृण से मुक्त हो जाता है। सर्वश्राप व पितृ दोष मुक्ति के लिये नारायण बली का पाठ, यज्ञ तथा नागबली करायें। पवित्र तीर्थ स्थानों में पिंडदान करें। श्राद्ध पक्ष में पूर्वजों की पुण्यतिथि अनुसार ब्राह्मणों को भोजन, वस्त्र, फल, वस्तु आदि दक्षिणा सहित दान करें। परिवार में होने वाले प्रत्येक शुभ एवं धार्मिक, मांगलिक आयोजनों में पूर्वजों को याद करें तथा क्षमतानुसार भोजन, वस्त्र आदि का दान करें। सरसों के तेल का दीपक जलाकर, प्रतिदिन सर्पसूक्त एवं नवनाग स्तोत्र का पाठ करें। सूर्य एवं चंद्र ग्रहण के समय/ दिन सात प्रकार के अनाज से तुला दान करें। शिवलिंग पर प्रतिदिन दूध चढ़ायें। बिल्वपत्र सहित पंचोपचार पूजा करे। ''ॐ नमः शिवाय'' या महामृत्युंजय मंत्र का रुद्राक्ष माला से जप करें। भगवान शिव की अधिक से अधिक पूजा करें। वर्ष में एक बार श्रावण माह व इसके सोमवार, महाशिवरात्रि पर रूद्राभिषेक करायें।

शत्रु नाश के लिये सोमवारी अमावस्या को सरसों के तेल से रूद्राभिषेक करायें। यदि यह सोमवारी अमावस्या श्रावण माह में आये तो ''सोने पर सुहागा'' होगा। नागपंचमी का व्रत करें तथा इस दिन सर्पपूजा करायें। नाग प्रतिमा की अंगूठी धारण करें। प्रत्येक माह पंचमी तिथि (शुक्ल एवं कृष्ण पक्ष की) को चांदी के नाग-नागिन के जोड़े को बांधकर शिवलिंग पर चढ़ायें। कालसर्प योग की शांति यंत्र को प्राण-प्रतिष्ठा द्वारा स्थापित कर प्रतिदिन सरसों के तेल के दीपक के साथ मंत्र - ''ॐ अनन्ताय च विद्महे नवकुल नागाय धीमहि तन्नो सर्प: प्रचोदयात् - ''की एक रुद्राक्ष माला जप प्रतिदिन करें। घर एवं कार्यालय, दुकान पर मोर पंख लगावें। घर में पूजा स्थल पर पारद शिवलिंग को चांदी या तांबे के पंचमुखी नाग पर प्राण प्रतिष्ठा द्वारा स्थापित कर प्रतिदिन पूजा करें। ताजी मूली का दान करें। कोयले, बहते जल में प्रवाहित करें। महामृत्युंजय मंत्र का संकल्प लेकर सवा लाख मंत्रों का अनुष्ठान करायें। प्रातः पक्षियों को जौ के दाने खिलायें। जल पिलायें। इसके अलावा उड़द एवं बाजरा भी खिला सकते हैं। पानी वाला नारियल हर शनिवार प्रातः या सायं बहते जल में प्रवाहित करें। शिव उपासना एवं रुद्र सूक्त से अभिमंत्रित जल से स्नान करें।
यदि संभव हो तो राहु एवं केतु के मंत्रों का क्रमशः ७२००० एवं ६८००० जप संकल्प लेकर करायें। सरस्वती माता एवं गणेश भगवान की पूजा करें। प्रत्येक सोमवार को शिव जी का अभिषेक दही से मंत्र - ''ॐ हर-हर महादेव'' जप के साथ करें। प्रत्येक पुष्य नक्षत्र को शिवजी एवं गणेशजी पर दूध एवं जल चढ़ावें। रुद्र का जप एवं अभिषेक करें। भांग व बिल्वपत्र चढ़ायें। गणेशजी को लड्डू का प्रसाद, दूर्वा का लाल पुष्प चढ़ायें। सरस्वती माता को नीले पुष्प चढ़ायें। गोमेद एवं लहसुनिया लग्नानुसार, यदि सूट करे तो धारण करे। कुलदेवता/देवी की प्रतिदिन पूजा करे। नाग योनि में पड़े पितरो के उद्धार तथा अपने हित के लिये नागपंचमी के दिन चांदी के नाग की पूजा करे। हिजड़ों को साल में कम से कम एक बार नये वस्त्र, फल, मिठाई, सुगन्धित सौंदर्य प्रसाधन सामग्री एवं दक्षिणा आदि का सामर्थ्यानुसार दान करें।
यदि दांपत्य जीवन में बाधा आ रही है तो अपने जीवन साथी के साथ नियमित रूप से अर्थात् लगातार ७ शुक्रवार किसी भी देवी के मंदिर में ७ परिक्रमा लगाकर पान के पत्ते पर मिश्री एवं मक्खन का प्रसाद रखें। तथा साथ ही पति एवं पत्नी दोनों ही अलग-अलग सफेद फूलों की माला चढ़ायें तथा सफेद पुष्प चरणों में चढ़ायें। अष्ट मुखी रुद्राक्ष धारण करें।
