The Vinshottadrisha method created by Parashar Muni is based on the Chandra Nakshatra, the prediction made by this method is considered accurate, so astrologers have been relying on this method for years and have been predicting it.
A cycle of Mahadasha of Navagrahas is completed in 120 years, in Vinshottari Dasha method, the average age of a person is assumed to be 120 years.
In ancient times, the age of man may have been so, but at present the average age is decreasing. Until a few days ago, the average age of a man was considered to be 60 to 70 years, which has come down to 50 to 60 years. That is, in the proportion of ancient times, the average age of the present man has been halved, so the Mahadasha of all the planets does not come in the life of a person, usually the life of a person ends in the Mahadasha of 4-5 planets. In such a situation, there has been a provision of Antardasha under Mahadasha to find the fruit of all the planets, during the Mahadasha in turn the Antardasha of all the planets comes at certain times according to which the fruit is analyzed accordingly.
A special rule is used to determine the mood in the Vinshottari system, under this rule, three constellations of all the planets are considered.
In this way, the total number of constellations is assumed to be 27, the birth of a person is considered to be in the Mahadasha of the planet in which the moon is at the time of birth.
At the time of birth, as much as the moon has crossed the constellation, the duration of Mahadasha is considered to be the same.
For example, if the moon has entered into a planetary constellation at the time of birth, the person will get the full Mahadasha of that planet. If the moon is in half of the constellation at the time of birth, only half of the Mahadasha will be received by the person.
In connection with finding the fruit of planets in Vinshottari Dasha, Maharishi Parashar and Varahamihira have stated a rule that some planets are naturally auspicious according to the lagna such as Saturn Mars for Aries Lagna, Saturn for Taurus Lagna, Virgo of Lagna. But for Mercury and Cancer Ascendant, Mars is naturally auspicious for Ascendant, although it is important to keep in mind how strong that planet is in the horoscope.
If the planet is weak or low then it will not be able to give its auspicious results despite being auspicious.
Center places have been given great importance in astrology, it is generally believed that the sin planets Saturn, Mars, Sun are troublesome, but if they are the masters of the center sentiments, then there is a benefit in their condition, for the person. Condition is pleasing in every way.

नवग्रहों की महादशा का एक चक्र 120 वर्ष में पूरा होता है, विंशोत्तरी दशा पद्धति में व्यक्ति की औसत आयु 120 वर्ष मानी गयी है ।
प्राचीन काल में मनुष्य की आयु संभवत: इतनी रही होगी, परंतु वर्तमान में औसत आयु कम होती जा रही है. कुछ दिनों पहले तक मनुष्य की औसत आयु 60 से 70 वर्ष मानी जाती थी जो घटकर 50 से 60 वर्ष हो गयी है. यानी कुल मिलाकर प्राचीन काल के अनुपात में वर्तमान मनुष्य की औसत आयु आधी रह गयी है, इसलिए सभी ग्रहों की महादशा एक व्यक्ति के जीवन में नहीं आ पाती है, 4-5 ग्रहों की महादशा में ही आमतौर पर व्यक्ति का जीवन समाप्त हो जाता है, ऐसे में सभी ग्रहों का फल ज्ञात करने के लिए महादशा के अन्तर्गत अन्तर्दशा का प्रावधान किया गया है,महादशा के दौरान बारी-बारी से निश्चित समय पर सभी ग्रहों की अन्तर्दशा आती है इसके अनुसार फल का विश्लेषण किया जाता है।
विंशोत्तरी पद्धति में महदशा का निर्धारण करने के लिए एक विशेष नियम का प्रयोग किया जाता है,इस नियम के अन्तर्गत सभी ग्रहों के तीन नक्षत्र माने गये हैं।
इस तरह नक्षत्रों की कुल संख्या 27 मानी गई है,जन्म के समय चन्द्रमा जिस ग्रह के नक्षत्र में होता है उस ग्रह की महादशा में व्यक्ति का जन्म माना जाता है।
जन्म के समय चन्द्रमा नक्षत्र का जितना भाग पार कर चुका हुआ है, महादशा की अवधि उतनी ही शेष मानी जाती है ।
जैसे जन्म के समय चन्द्र किसी ग्रह नक्षत्र में प्रवेश किया है तो व्यक्ति को उस ग्रह की पूरी महादशा मिलेगी अगर जन्म के समय नक्षत्र के आधे भाग में चन्द्र है तो महादशा का आधा भाग ही व्यक्ति को प्राप्त होगा।
विंशोत्तरी दशा में ग्रहों का फल ज्ञात करने के सम्बन्ध में महर्षि पराशर एवं वारहमिहिर ने एक नियम यह बताया है कि लग्न के अनुरूप कुछ ग्रह नैसर्गिक रूप से शुभ होते हैं जैसे मेष लग्न के लिए शनि मंगल, वृष लग्न के लिए शनि, कन्या लग्न के लिए बुध तथा कर्क लग्न के लिए मंगल लग्न के लिए नैसर्गिक रूप से ग्रह शुभ होने के बावजूद यह ध्यान रखना जरूरी होता है कि कुण्डली में वह ग्रह कितना बलवान है।
अगर ग्रह कमज़ोर अथवा नीच का होगा तो वह शुभ होते हुए भी अपना शुभ फल नहीं दे पाएगा।
केन्द्र स्थानों को ज्योतिष में काफी महत्व दिया गया है,आमतौर पर यह माना जाता है कि पाप ग्रह शनि, मंगल, सूर्य कष्टकारी होते हैं परंतु यदि यह केन्द्र भावों के स्वामी हों तो उनकी दशा-अन्तर्दशा में लाभ मिलता है,व्यक्ति के लिए इनकी दशा हर प्रकार से सुखकारी रहती है।
