सृष्टि के इस धातल पर मानव-सभ्यता ने जब प्रथम बार अपनी आँखें खोली और सुदूर आकाश मण्डल में उसने ग्रहों,नक्षत्रों और ताराओं को चमकते हुये देखा ,साथ ही साथ यह भी यह भी देखा की आकाश गंगा में ये सभी ग्रह अपने एक निश्चित समय में गतिवान हैं,तो उनका रहस्य जानने के लिए वह उत्कंठित हो उठे ।
उसने यह भी देखना चाहा कि यह आकाश मण्डल में ग्रह,नक्षत्र एवं ताराएं क्या ? हैं एवं क्यों गतिशील हैं तथा इनका मानव पर प्रभाव है।
प्रारम्भ में तो उसने उन ग्रहों एवं नक्षत्रों को देवतुल्य माना और इसी रूप में उनकी पूजा करनी प्रारम्भ भी कर दी ।
वेदों में सूर्य और चंद्रमा को देवता कि संज्ञा देकर उन्हें पूर्ण सम्मान प्रदान किया है ।परंतु प्रकृति के वातावरण के सहयोग से धीरे - धीरे मानव - सभ्यता विकसित होती गई और जब उसने गणित का ज्ञान प्राप्त किया तो उसने पाया कि ये ग्रह दूर रहते हुये भी एक दूसरे से संबन्धित हैं और ये सभी ग्रह सूर्य कि परिक्रमा करते रहते हैं ।
उसने यह भी अनुभव किया की इन ग्रहों के भ्रमण से वायुमंडल में परिवर्तन आता रहता है जिसके चलते ऋतुओं का परिवर्तन एवं मासों में अंतर होता रहता है ।
फिर मानव - सभ्यता ने इनके बारे में विशेष खोज प्रारम्भ की तो उसने यह भी पाया की ये ग्रह सामान्य गतिवान नहीं हैं,इनका प्रभाव मानव जीवन पर और मानव - सभ्यता पर भी क्रमश : पड़ता रहता है और उसने यह भी देखा की इन ग्रहों के प्रभाव के फलस्वरूप एक मानव का दूसरे मानव में अन्तर होता है तथा उसके जीवन में अन्तर आता रहता है । इसको अनुभव में लाने के कारण ही भारतीय ज्योतिष का प्रादुर्भाव हुआ ।
सूर्यादि ग्रहाणां बोध्यं ज्योतिषं शास्त्रम् --
ज्योतिष मूल रूप से ग्रहों ,नक्षत्रों इत्यादि का बोधक है,इसके माध्यम से यह ज्ञात होता है कि कौन सा ग्रह पृथ्वी से कितनी दूरी पर है और उस ग्रह का अन्य ग्रहों से कितना अन्तर है तथा किस प्रकार एक दूसरे संबंध रखता है ।
प्रत्येक ग्रह अपने आप में आकर्षण लिए हुये हैं और प्रत्येक ग्रह की अपने आप में चुम्बकीय शक्ति है और इसी शक्ति के द्वारा प्रत्येक ग्रह एक दूसरे ग्रह को अपनी ओर आकर्षित करता है,इसी को भारतीय ज्योतिष में दृष्टि सम्बंध कहा गया है ।
आकाश मण्डल में जीतने भी ग्रह हैं उन सभी ग्रहों की रश्मियां पृथ्वी पर आती हैं और उन रश्मियों के द्वारा ग्रहों का प्रभाव इस सृष्टि के धरातल पर मानव वर्ग पर पड़ता है ,साथ ही साथ मानव का जीवन तथा क्रिया-कलाप उसी प्रकार से बन जाता है जिस प्रकार से ग्रहों की स्थिति एवं प्रकृति है ।
ऐसी स्थिति होने पर मानव ने देखा कि यदि इन ग्रहों का अध्ययन अच्छी तरह से किया जाय तो यह ज्ञात हो जाएगा कि किस व्यक्ति पर किस ग्रह का कितना प्रभाव है तो मानव - जीवन के सम्बंध में भलीप्रकार से जा सकता है । इसी तथ्य को निरूपित करने के लिए फलित ज्योतिष का जन्म हुआ ।
यत् पिण्डे तत् ब्रह्माण्डे -
आकाश मण्डल अत्यन्त विस्तृत है इसमें चलायमान ग्रहों ,नक्षत्रों इत्यादि को नंगी आँखों से देखना और उसे समझना सम्भव नहीं है अत:जन्म कुण्डली का निर्माण किया गया । यह जन्माङ्ग चक्र एक प्रकार से समस्त गगन मण्डल हैं और आकाश मण्डल में जिसप्रकार ग्रहों की स्थिति है उसी स्थिति को जन्म कुण्डली के माध्यम से दर्शाया जाता है ।
जन्म कुण्डली में १२ खाने होते हैं, ये एक प्रकार से सम्पूर्ण गगन मण्डल को १२ भागों में विभाजित किया जाता है जिससे कि आकाश मण्डल को तथा उसमें स्थित ग्रहों को अच्छी तरह से जाना जा सके ।
मानव जीवन की कोई विशेष घटना जन्म कुण्डली के विशेष भाव के कारण क्यों होती है ----- उदाहरण ----
जन्म कुण्डली का प्रथम भाव शरीर का द्योतक है जिसे हम-आप लग्न के माध्यम से जानते हैं ,जबकि चतुर्थ भाव माँ के लिए होता है,इस बटवारे का मूलाधार अब भी एक रहस्य है,मानव जीवन की सभी घटनाओं को १२ भागों बाटने के लिए प्राचीन महर्षियों का अवश्य ही कोई वैज्ञानिक आधार रहा होगा । इस विषय पर अवश्य ध्यान देना चाहिए कि पालना से लेकर कब्र {चिता }तक की जीव की यात्रा के साथ १२ भावों का सांसारिक सम्बंध है ।
दिन का प्रारम्भ सूर्योदय से लगभग या कुछ घटी ५ घटी पूर्व होता था,इस समय से सूर्योदय तक के क्रिया - कलाप मुख्यत: निजी भाव होते थे ।अत: प्रथम भाव निजी भाव बन गया । जन्म से सभी घटनाओं की उत्पत्ति होती है और हमारे पार्थिव जीवन में परिणामों का अनुभव होता है अत:लग्न का जो अधिपति है पृथ्वी पर जीवन की शर्तों को बतलाता है । आज जब मानव चन्द्रमा पर पहुंचा है तो उसने देखा कि पृथ्वी एक ग्रह के समान बराबर अपनी धुरी पर गतिशील है और दूसरे ग्रहों के समान इसकी भी एक निश्चित गति है परंतु हमारे ऋषियों ने इस तथ्य को हजारों वर्ष पूर्व ही अनुभव कर लिया था और पृथ्वी को भी एक ग्रह मानते हुये उसे जन्म कुण्डली में स्थान दे दिया है अत: प्रथम भाव जन्म से संबन्धित है और उसी को आधार मानकर अन्य ग्रहों के अंतर को पहचाना जाता है ।
दिन का दूसरा अर्ध भाग ५ घटी के सातवें काल में संध्या के बाद का समय आरंभ होता था यह समय हमेशा मनोरंजन और आराम का -सहचरों से मिलने तथा उनके संपर्क से आनंद उठाने का होता था अत: सातवाँ भाव पत्नी या सहयोगियों के साथ सम्बंध का हो गया । लग्न से विपरीत वही भाव होगा जो पति/पत्नी का निर्माण करेगा अत: सातवाँ भाव पति/पत्नी का होता है ।
हांथ हमारे शरीर कि रक्षा करता है अत:भाई पार्थिव जीवन में हमारे सहयोगी होते हैं ,३ भाव सामन्यात: भाइयों का बोधक होता है ।
४ भाव वक्षस्थल को नियंत्रित करता है ,जहाँ से बच्चा पोषाहार प्राप्त करता है ,जब कि खुशी और आनंद की उत्पत्ति मस्तिष्क से होती है । इसी प्रकार से प्रत्येक भाव किसी न किसी भाव से सम्बंध लिए हुये है ।

Astrology is basically a sign of planets, constellations etc. through which it is known which planet is at a distance from the earth and how much difference that planet has with other planets and how it is related to each other.
Each planet has charms in itself and each planet has magnetic power in itself and by this power each planet attracts another planet towards itself, which is called vision relation in Indian astrology.
