ज्योतिष प्रवर्तकों के अनुसार - आकाश के एक भाग में तो ऐसा मालूम पड़ता है की एक छोटा सा स्वच्छ जगमाता हुआ लंबा पतला सा बादल मौजूद है !यह आकाश के एक सिरे से दूसरे सिरे तथा फैला हुआ दिखलाई देता है ! एक आकाशीय नदी की स्वच्छ निर्मल जल की धारा की भांति प्रतीत होता है ! इस लिए इसको मंदाकिनी या आकाश गंगा के नाम से पुकारे जाते हैं ! दूरबीन द्वारा देखने से मालूम पड़ता है की यह बादल और कुछ नहीं एक नक्षत्र समूह मात्र है ,जिसमें अगणित नक्षत्र बहुत पास होने के कारण नंगी आँखों से एक प्रकाशमान बादल की तरह दिखलाई देता है !
According to astrologers, in one part of the sky, it seems that a small clear, bright, long thin cloud is present! It looks spread from one end of the sky to the other! A celestial river appears like a stream of clean clear water! That is why it is called as Mandakini or Akash Ganga! Looking through the telescope, it seems that this cloud is nothing but a constellation group, in which the uncountable constellation looks very close to the naked eye like a bright cloud!
