ग्रह गतिशील हैं और वे एक राशि से दूसरी राशि में सदैव भ्रमण करते रहते हैं। जन्म समय जो ग्रह
जिस राशि में जितने अंशों पर होता है, उनको ही लग्न स्थिर करके उस स्थान पर स्थापित कर दिया
जाता है।
यही जातक का जन्मचक्र (कुंडली) होता है। जन्मचक्र के आधार पर ही
दशा का निर्णय करके शुभ-अशुभ समय को इंगित किया जाता है।
गोचर द्वारा इसी क्रम में और भी सूक्ष्मता से विचार होता है।
गोचर का अर्थ है दैनिक ग्रह गति का अध्ययन। किसी भी घटना के घटित होने के पीछे मुख्यतः तीन रूपों से उसकी व्याख्या की जा सकती है।
१- व्यक्ति की कुण्डली में घटना विशेष के घटित होने की सूचना हो।
२- महादशा, अंतरदशा समय विशेष पर उसे सूचित कर रही हों तथा
३- गोचर में अर्थात् उस दिन समय विशेष पर ग्रहों की स्थिति भी वैसा ही कुछ निर्देशित कर रही है।
इसे यूँ समझा जा सकता है कि एक व्यक्ति मान ले उसके विवाह का प्रश्न है और वह जानना चाहता
है कि वह कब होगा तो सर्वप्रथम तो कुण्डली में देखना होगा कि इस व्यक्ति के “विवाह योग“ हैं भी
या नहीं।
यदि नहीं तो फिर लाख विवाह संबंधी दशाएं चलें, गोचर में वैसी स्थितियाँ बने बात कार्यरूप
में परिणित नहीं हो पायेगी। लेकिन यदि विवाह योग है तो फिर अनुमान लगाना होगा कि लगभग
कितनी आयु में होगा विवाह शीघ्र २४-२५ तक, सामान्य रूप में २६-२८ वर्ष, विलम्ब में २८-२९ से ३४-३५ तक या बहुत विलम्ब से ४५-५० तक। जब इसका निर्णय हो जाए तो दशाओं पर ध्यान देना होगा कि उस समय मध्य कब योग कारक अर्थात घटना विशेष को फलदायी करने वाले ग्रह से संबंधित दशा चलेंगी। यदि समय मध्य दो तीन ऐसे ही ग्रहों की दशा निकट हों तो ग्रहों के बलाबल, कारकत्व आदि का विचार करके दशा विशेष को परिणाम सूचक माना जाना चाहिए। लेकिन घड़ी में जैसे छोटी सुई (महत्वपूर्ण सुई) के बारह पे रहने पर भी बारह तभी बजते हैं जब बड़ी सुई भी वहीं आ जाती है।
यदि सूक्ष्म गणना हो तो सेकेण्ड की सुई भी वहीं आ जाए, याने कि बारह नम्बर पर जिस क्षण ऐसा होता है टन-टन की आवाज गूँज पड़ती है। सीधे रूप में कहें तो घटना विशेष घटित हो जाती है।
इस प्रकार उपरोक्त स्थिति से गुजरने पर यह स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि गोचर का अपना महत्व होता है
किंतु यह एक तो अधिक सूक्ष्मता हेतु है और दूसरा सहायक रूप में है। अतः कुण्डली व दशा के
महत्वपूर्ण व श्रेष्ठ होते हुए भी घटना घटित होने का सूक्ष्म विचार गोचर से ही संभव है।
गोचर का अध्ययन करने में मुख्य हैं चन्द्र राशि अर्थात जन्म के समय चंद्रमा को राशि विशेष पर स्थिति। इसके आधार पर ही ग्रहों की नाप-तौल, शुभ-अशुभ के रूप में की जाती है।
सूर्य का भ्रमण, बारह राशियों में चन्द्र राशि से जब सूर्य उस राशि में भ्रमण करता है जिसमें
जन्मकालिक चन्द्रमा हो तो व्यक्ति को धन-हानि, अपयश, बीमारी का सामना करना पड़ता है। जब सूर्य चन्द्रराशि से दूसरी राशि में हो तो आर्थिक पक्ष निर्बल व धोखे की संभावना होती है। सूर्य चन्द्रराशि से तीसरी राशि में होने पर सुख, व्याधियों से मुक्ति, यश देता है। इसी प्रकार संक्षिप्त रूप में कहें तो सूर्य जन्मकालिक चन्द्रराशि से जब-जब “तीसरी, छठी, दसवी व ग्यारहवीं राशि“ में भ्रमण करता है तब वह शुभ फल देता है अन्य राशियों में भ्रमण करते समय अशुभ फल।
चन्द्र का भ्रमण, बारह राशियों में चंद्र राशि से- जब चन्द्रमा, जन्मकालिक “पहली, तीसरी, छठी,
सातवीं, दसवीं, ग्यारहवीं“ राशि में भ्रमण करता है तो शुभ फलदायक होता है। अन्य राशियों में अशुभ।
मंगल का भ्रमण, बारह राशियों में चन्द्र राशि से: जब मंगल, जन्मकालिक चन्द्रमा की राशि से
“तीसरी, छठी, ग्यारहवीं“ राशि में भ्रमण करता है तो शुभ फलदायक होता है। अन्य में शुभ नहीं।
बृहृस्पति भ्रमण, बारह राशियों में चन्द्र राशि से: जब बृहृस्पति, जन्मकालिक चन्द्रमा की राशि से
“दूसरी, पांचवीं, सातवीं नवीं, ग्यारहवीं“ राशि में भ्रमण करता है तो शुभ फलदायक अन्यथा नहीं।
बुध का भ्रमण, बारह राशियों में चन्द्र राशि से- जब बुध जन्मकालिक चन्द्रमा की राशि से “चौथी,
छठी, आठवीं, दसवीं, ग्यारहवीं“ राशि में भ्रमण करता है तो शुभ फलदायक होगा अन्यथा नहीं।
शनि का भ्रमण, बारह राशियों में चन्द्र राशि से: जब शनि, जन्मकालिक चन्द्रमा की राशि से
“तीसरी, छठी, ग्यारहवीं“ राशि में भ्रमण करता है तो शुभ फलदायी सिद्ध होता है। अन्यथा नहीं।
शुक्र का भ्रमण, बारह राशियों में चन्द्र राशि से: जब शुक्र, जन्मकालिक चन्द्रमा राशि से “दूसरी,
तीसरी, चौथी, पाँचवीं, आठवीं, नवीं, ग्यारहवीं, बारहवीं“ राशि में भ्रमण करता है तो शुभ फलदायी होगा अन्यथा नहीं।
राहु-केतु का भ्रमण चन्द्र राशि से ३,६,११ भावों में भ्रमण करता है तो शुभ फलदायी होगा अन्यथा नहीं।

गोचर में ग्रह शुभ होने पर भी पूर्ण फलदायी तभी सिद्ध होते हैं जब वे वेध रहित हो। वेध में देखा
जाता है कि ग्रह से स्थान विशेष पर कोई भी अन्य ग्रह न हो। यदि वहाँ पर ग्रह होता है तो वेध हो
जाने से परिणाम में “शुभ“ न्यून हो जाता है अन्यथा पूर्ण परिणाम प्राप्त होते हैं। ग्रहों के शुभ
स्थान जन्मकालिक चन्द्रराशि के आधार पर बताये जा चुके हैं, उन्हीं स्थान विशेष के लिए (चन्द्रराशि के आधार पर) वेध स्थान निम्न होंगे:--

नोट- कोई भी ग्रह दूसरे ग्रह के लिए वेध का कारण बन सकता है मात्र सूर्य और शनि में तथा चन्द्र
व बुध में किसी प्रकार का वेध नहीं होता है।
माना किसी व्यक्ति की जन्म राशि मेष (जन्म समय चन्द्रमा मेष राशि में था) है उसे चन्द्र के गोचर फल को जानना है। दिन विशेष को पंचांगानुसार माना चन्द्रमा मिथुन राशि (जन्मराशि से तीसरी राशि) में भ्रमण कर रहा है तो यह शुभ स्थिति है। यह चन्द्रमा अपना पूर्ण फल देगा अन्यथा नहीं इसके लिए वेधस्थान को भी देखना होगा। चन्द्रमा के तीसरे स्थान के लिए वेधस्थान को भी देखना होगा। चन्द्रमा के तीसरे स्थान के लिए वेध स्थान है - नवम स्थान अतः यह स्थान खाली होना चाहिए, कोई ग्रह न हो। मात्र बुध हो सकता है क्योंकि चन्द्र व बुध में परस्पर वेध नहीं होता किंतु शनि, सूर्य, मंगल, शुक्र, बृहृस्पति में से एक या एकाधिक ग्रहों के होने पर वेध हो जाने के कारण शुभ परिणाम की प्राप्ति नहीं होगी ।
गोचर अध्ययन में यदि हम यह भी ध्यान रखें कि कोई ग्रह अपना पूर्ण, समग्र फल कितने अंशों के
मध्य देता है तो संभवतः हम घटना के घटित होने के गणना का सूक्ष्मातिसूक्ष्म ज्ञान प्राप्त करने में
सफल हो सकते हैं। ग्रहों के यह अंश निम्न प्रकार हैं ---

चन्द्र अंत के १० अंश (२० से ३० )

Suppose the birth sign of a person is Aries (Moon was in Aries Aries at the time of birth), he has to know the transit of Moon. If the moon is traveling in Gemini (third sign from birth), it is considered auspicious for the day. This moon will give its full fruit otherwise it will have to see the place of observance. For the third place of the moon, the observatory must also be seen. For the third position of the moon, there is an altitude - the ninth place, so this place should be empty, there should be no planet. Mercury can only happen because Moon and Mercury do not have mutual perforation but due to one or multiple planets of Saturn, Sun, Mars, Venus, Jupiter or other
