मनुष्य के समस्त कार्य ज्योतिष के द्वारा ही चलते हैं ,व्यवहार के लिए अत्यंत उपयोगी दिन,सप्ताह,पक्ष,मास,अयन,ऋतु,वर्ष एवं उत्सव तिथि आदि का परिज्ञान इसी शास्त्र से संभव होता है !यदि मानव -समाज को इसका ज्ञान न हो तो धार्मिक उत्सव,सामाजिक त्यौहार,महापुरुषों के जन्म दिन ,अपनी प्राचीन -गौरव -गाथा का इतिहास पता लगाना असंभव होगा,शिक्षित या सभ्य समाज की तो बात ही क्या ,भारतीय अनपढ़ किसान भी व्यवहारोपयोगी ज्योतिष ज्ञान से परिचत हैं ,एक कृषक भलीभाती से जानता है की किस नक्षत्र में वर्षा अच्छी होती है अत:बीज कब बोना चाहिए जिससे फसल अच्छी हो ! कुछ महानुभाव यह तर्क दे सकते हैं की आज के वैज्ञानिक युग में कृषि शास्त्र के मर्मज्ञ असमय में ही आवश्यकतानुसार वर्षा का आयोजन या निवारण कर कृषि कम को सम्पन्न कर लेते हैं ,इस दशा में कृषक के लिए ज्योतिष ज्ञान की आवश्यकता नहीं ,पर उन्हें यह भूलना नहीं चाहिए की आज का विज्ञान भी प्राचीन ज्योतिष का एक लघु शिष्य है !
वास्तविक बात यह है की चंद्रमा जिस समय जलचर राशि और जलचर नक्षत्रों पर रहता है ,उसी समय वर्षा होती है ! वैज्ञानिक प्रकृति के रहस्य को ज्ञात कर जब चंद्रमा जलचर नक्षत्रों पर भोग करता है ,वृष्टि का आयोजन कर लेता है !
वाराही संहिता में भी कुछ ऐसे सिद्धान्त आए है जिनके द्वारा जलचर चांद्र नक्षत्रों के दिनों में वर्षा का आयोजन किया जा सकता है !
