फलित ज्योतिष ने सृष्टि - आरम्भ विन्दु मेषादि संपात से ग्रहों की स्थिति को समझकर तदनुसार ही सदा के लिए स्थिर एक रूप फलित शास्त्रों का निर्माण किया है ! आज के खगोल से २३दिसम्बर से दिन की वृद्धि {उत्तरायण सूर्य},२३ मार्च एवं २३ सितम्बर को दिन व रात्रि की समानता , सूर्य की भू मध्यगत स्थिति एवं २३ जून को दिनमान की परमाधिकता दक्षिणायन एवं रात्रि की वृद्धि प्रारम्भ होने लगती है ! किन्तु फलित ज्योतिष तथा तदाधारित भारतीय धर्म व्यवस्था मीमांसक धर्म ग्रन्थ १३ या १४ जनवरी से उत्तरायण और १५ - १६ जुलाई को ही दक्षिणायन कहते हैं ! इसी सृष्टि - आरम्भ की उत्तरायण-दक्षिणायन गोलादि स्थिर ग्रह स्थित से फलित ज्योतिष मानव का शुभाशुभ भविष्य एवं भारतीय धर्मशास्त्रीय मीमांसा भी इसी के आधार पर धर्म - कर्म - नीति-पर्व आदि की व्यवस्था देती है ? भारतेत्तर विशेषत : पश्चिमी देशों में सायन लग्न एवं सायन ग्रह स्थिति वश जो २३ दिसम्बर को ही उत्तरायण मानते हुये भी भारतीय अनुभवगम्य फलित ही वहाँ भी विकसित होने जा रहा है !

भारतीय ज्योतिर्विदों के विचारों से गणित शुद्धि के लिए सायन ग्रह और सायन लग्न ही होने चाहिए ,किन्तु फलित एवं धर्मशास्त्र के अनुसरण के लिए सायन पंचाङ्ग की निरयण गणित -परम्परा के अनुसार प्राय : १४ जनवरी को ही उत्तरायण ऐसा फलित व धर्मशास्त्र का निर्णय होना चाहिए ,यही पद्धति आए दिन चल भी रही है !
